Change of Season

I hear the nails being hammered;
the old shingles being replaced.
My neighbor is fixing his roof.
The sign winter is approaching.
Only few days
remain of summer
to winterize homes before,
first snow begins to fall,
icy winds begin to howl,
flames begin to dance.
The snow will shimmer
equally on all
great and small
for nature has no favorites.
Beauty of snowy white will replace
the beauty of verdant green.
At least, for a while

Visits

She stopped visiting.
Months went a-vanishing.
I reasoned for why.
Did she die?
Did she deliver
cute little litter?
Did neighbor's dog
scared her off to a fog?
Then one evening
as we were driving
she was found sitting
on our cement porch
holding as if a torch
wanting me to make an offer
of her share of milk in a saucer.
Where she goes I want no answer
just her daily visits to my love and care.
