Commiseration
Commiseration
An evil struck again
Stole lives unsuspecting
Supplanted survivors’ joy
With incalculable grief
That shall never see relief
Their eyes grow dim
And hearts numb
As each glint of their tears
That rolls down their cheeks,
By traces, washes away
The sparkle of their eyes
Head hung in shame
I shed tears, I do so
In a futile hope to
Ease their pain
Cleanse the stain
Of inhumanity
A drop at a time.

In Memory-Pushpa Gandhi
A family member passed away a year ago. In her memory.....
Pushpa
She was
with no one
among us,
only disenfranchised
to call her own
She served slums,
poor and needy
not all but some
yet, much too many.
She once took me to a field trip,
Juhapura we went
where I learnt,
slums and ghettos
have slums and ghettos
of their own.
On to her work
we stepped over
open sewers;
covered our noses
to stem the stench of
human excrement,
rotting dead rats and dogs.
We walked dirt roads with
puddles turned swamps
mosquitoes a-swarmed.
She helloed owners
of butcher shops where
animal carcasses
hung from the hooks
buzzing with flies.
She befriended women
suffering abuses
of all versions.
She taught them
the art of survival
by helping them
market wares they crafted
with their own hands.
It brought them
pride, joy
and perhaps
two bits of coin
This,
I saw first hand but once
and lost my sleep;
she made her vocation
and slept well through
for she did her part.
True to her calling,
she donated her live body
to a cause, poor.
She donated her dead body
to a cause, medicine.
A true Social Worker.

Causality
Causality |
Causality
Everything
Anything
Any being
Is a link;
A cause of an effect
An effect of a cause
Preceding, proceeding
Another.
Disrupted
Corrupted
Nonetheless, a link
In a chain of
Another.
So does reside
Elegance inside
The integrity
Of causality
Within a
Microcosm
Macrocosm
Universe
Of
Any being
Anything
Everything

Chicago Theater Dome
We were at landmark Chicago Theater for a break dancing show. The dancing ,"Flying Bach", was set to Bach's music. It was an hour and a quarter of incessant flow of music and energy.
We have seen many films in this theater when it was just a movie projection theater. This is the first time we attended a performing arts show here. It allowed me some time to take in the scenery of the interior as the show was late to start.
The Theater was originally built in 1921 but named historic site only in 1979. Now it stages performing arts only, I believe.
Here is a quadrant of the entire dome.

Rabindra Sangeet
I found this sublime combination of Rabindranath Tagore's lyrics, music and voice of Srikanto Acharya. It sounds thousand times better with headphones. The video gives translation after each verse is sung.

Sun in Miniature
http://www.cnn.com/videos/bestoftv/2014/12/22/exp-gps-moonshots-iter-sot.cnn
Last Sunday we listened to Fareed Zakaria's special on "GPS Moonshots: Creating a star on earth". The collaborative project is named 'Iter', Roman for 'The Way'. The intent, I believe, is to harness the solar energy by artificially creating the sun on the earth. As fascinating as the talk is/was, I have/had reservation.
Science does and will continue unhindered often to the detriment of humanity.
I will not be on the face of this earth, when this materializes, if at all it does.

Sun in Miniature
A physicist in a white robe
in a costly sterile select lab
splits an atom in fission
releasing pent-up energy
He forces two atoms to collide
and merge them in fusion
unleashing extreme energy
momentarily recreating
a sun in miniature
Awed and blinded by
his brilliant feat,
I wondered,
"Can an ephemeral sun of lab
ever afford, among other things,
the wonderment
of the real sun?"
