There was a time when our building was considered classy, at least by our family. It had a gatekeeper we used to call Darwanji who occupied a small room at the top of this stair. The blue door to his room is still visible. Dilapidation that has descended on this building brought tears to my eyes. On my recent visit there I could not summon the courage to visit my own flat, which I was told has now become a godown(warehouse).
This building can now rival any structure in a slum.
Curiously the steps have retained their original red and yellow colors. So has remained the blue color of the door to the room.
