Fresco

I took a picture of the fresco of cow herder boys with their cow, similar to famous Paleolithic cave paintings found in Lascaux Caves in southwestern France, on the walls of Kingdom Hotel, Zimbabwe. The artist is unknown to me.

I exaggerated the photograph of the painting with following result.

Echelon

Echelon

Coveted, surely denied,
Residency within
Inner sanctum
Of inimitables

Invalidated,
I took refuge
Unto my circle
Of inner me ’n myself

Unlike Venn’s these
Sanctum and circle
Neither intersect
Nor they nestle.
Tiered yes, parallel
They will stand
 Tall and erect

Alone perhaps,
I am afforded
A sense of self

Decrepit yellow pages
Shriveled up daily news
Bound in historic
Tome of years yore
I pick up
To give it
Once over by sheet
Just to see

Rex

Town of Knysana in South Africa is situated at the confluence of Knysana Lagoon, also a river, and Indian Ocean. Tucked away among designers shops and seafood restaurants of the quaint town is a small hotel named Rex. It was so non-descript one could not find its marquee or the entrance from the street. We were surprised to see its interior.

Here is a negative photograph of its hallway.

K of Knysana is silent;  'Nice, na!'?

Sparkling Leaf

Sparkling Leaf

This morning when I looked out, my deck was strewn with withered leaves. A sign of coming fall season. Among all leaves only one shone. At closer look I found only that leaf was covered with morning dew.

I am still scratching my head.

No matter!

I took the picture.

With some software modifications, here is the result.

Sailboat

Sailboat

A Bengali song by Rabindranath Tagore sung in beautiful voice of Nilofer Yasmin.

Roughly translated it speaks of lover anchoring his/her boat, a metaphor for life, at beloved's shores whom he/she needs in the face of sudden storms which the boat by itself is unable to weather.

Ballerinas

Ballerinas

We are no
Isadora of
Duncan name
Nor Agnes of
de Mille fame
Just the stems with buds
Of garden greens

We bob we sway
Head above the rest
We play mime
In gentle breeze
We put on airs with
Third Arabesques
Or spins of Pirouette
We fancy to make
The perfect cuts
To stage The Nutcracker
Among our peerage
Of garden foliage

Planet-Proxima b Centauri

My rendering of imaginary planetary system.

This is in honor of yesterday's news about NASA  scientists announcing new earth like planet spotted about 2.4 Light Years away. They christened it Proxima b- Centauri.  Such space related news thrill me. Regardless of its likeness and closest proximity to the Earth, I am not leaving my home for new habitat any time soon.

Grand Entry

Grand Entry

I need
No sovereign
To curtsy
No suitors
To whirl waltz
To the sounds of
Blue Danube
None of diamonds
Pearls
Or sequins on
Stitched taffeta
To swirl
To twirl
Tresses with tiara
The neck of laces

Anon you will see me
Descend curving steps
With soft smile
Glint in eye
Quiet aplomb
For poise is
Chosen adornment
For my grand entry

Rickshaw-wala

Improvised photograph of a rickshaw driver taking a break from harsh sun on a Kolkata street-one of many Indianas (not the state in USA).

It reminds me of an amusing old song from movie 'Chhoti Bahen'.

'Wala' can be interpreted either as owner or operator.

Synagogue-Calcutta

A snippet of Magen David Synagogue.  Even though the colors have faded and moss has made it shome, the arches leading up to stairs have retained their filigree work. I breathed in the musty air of antiquity when I visited it last year.

It is situated at the cross roads of Canning Street and Brabourne Road, Calcutta, India. While I lived exactly at that crossing between mid fifties and mid sixties of twentieth century I had no knowledge of it existence.  Fie!
