Awakenings-2014 Chapbook -- Volume IX by the Schaumburg Scribes

Awakenings-2014 Chapbook

'Schaumburg Scribes' is a non-profit  group of authors of which I am a member. We publish a Chapbook, short for chapter book, every year. It will contain writings of various genres from the members.

This is my first Chapbook. I contributed a poem.

More than that I was privileged to submit my graphic artwork which,  I named Seascape, they selected to use as the cover of the book.

Conch

They say one can hear the ocean roaring if you put your ears to a conch. Why, I can even see it roiling in its belly. Can you?

Time

Time

Effervescent memories
cherished few moments
like fine wine
from bottle uncorked
wafted through my mind.
I began to reason.

Time the untamed,
unlike tide at shores
we say it flows,
where no one knows

Time the unbendable.
Dali whimsically bent
as clocks hung to dry
in a defiant N' valiant try.

Time the indivisible,
fractioned into nano
a fictional scale
to measure
well, eternity
and a day

Time the linear wanderer
leaves an awed wonderer
to question its course onward
neither upward or downward
nor even backward
simply just forward
onto unknown whereward

To grasp time irretrievable is
to bottle memories of space
its wedded partner.
It holds within
the moments
that slither away
before mind formulates
sound of a mere ‘h'
of here and now.

Time the elusive.

Manasi Oza-Raga Bhimpalasi-Solo Riyaz

This is Raga Bhimpalasi, being practiced solo by my niece, Manasi. She is extremely talented young lady. I am very proud as well as envious of her.

Actually I envy both of my nieces' musical talent. Meghana is extremely musically inclined also. But she traded musical riyaz for motherhood. At least for the time being. I am sure she will pick it up again in the future.

Rusticity

Rusticity

Ahh,
the geres spent in rusticity
unsullied by modernity
wilt thou kindly return to me
if I so presume to bid thee

Withering Gracefully-Orchids

We enjoyed the Orchids from September through now. I suppose it is time to wither, wither gracefully. I see my mother's veins in theses petals when she was near her demise.

Here is to you, Ba!

A Musical Talent-Rima Parekh

(unable to upload the video from youtube so I am providing the link)

Rima Parekh,  daughter of Bhavna and Jatin Parekh is an up and coming musical talent of our extended family. We are very proud of her and wish her all the success in her chosen field of performing art.

In above video she is performing Sonatina Opus 36 no. 4 by M. Clementi at a Spring recital organized by Music Studio where Rima takes her Piano lessons.

The second link is a part of a semi-annual event  organized by the same Music Studio. This particular session was devoted to performances by the ‘Honors' students and featured both violin and piano recitals. It was held on Sunday, Nov 2, at Santa Clara University’s Performance Hall and attended by friends and family of the performing students. In the link provided she is reciting a couple of pieces; Mozart’s Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and Mendelssohn’s Venetian Boat Song.

She has done a wonderful job. Some of us are envious of her talent.

Congratulations to Rima Parekh!

Three Globes

Rainbow clouds never seen by me before were captured in a photograph few months ago. With my new software I tinkered with the picture and encapsulated the clouds in the shape of a globe three times over. Wispy clouds can be seen in each of the globes.

Pushpa Gandhi by Beverly

Beverly Barsy, a dear friend of ours wrote a poem remembering Pushpa Gandhi, a member of our family who recently passed away.  Pushpa stayed with the Barsys for couple of months when she first arrived in the USA as a student in 1965. We have been friends with the Barsys since then. I would like to share her poem with you.

Dle Yaman

With my Facebook friend's permission I am posting a link to a song from Armenia. I love it. While I do not comprehend the words; perhaps, I do not need to. The singing says it all. It is heart wrenchingly beautiful. There is a bit of intro; if you get passed that there is a treat.

Guilty As Charged

Guilty as Charged

I am accused
Of being VERY
Smart, Stupid
Adept, Clumsy
Strong, Weak
Wise, Rash
Timid, Aggressive;
Among many more

I plead guilty,
Of any one or
Any other
At any now or
Any then

Yet, in my defense

I am
More or less,
More of less
Than
More of more
Of any charges
Levied as VERY
At anytime

Change of Season

Winter 2013

I hear the nails being hammered;
the old shingles being replaced.
My neighbor is fixing his roof.
The sign winter is approaching.

Only  few days
remain of summer
to winterize homes before,
first snow begins to fall,
icy winds begin to howl,
flames begin to dance.

The snow will shimmer
equally on all
great and small
for nature has no favorites.

Beauty of snowy white will replace
the beauty of verdant green.

At least, for a while
.

Emergence

I have learnt
to live with
being unborn.

I have no dob.
I have no photo
of being a child.
Thus,
I was never born.

Mine must have to be a
spontaneous emergence!

Lagan Lagi Re............

I heard it and fell in love................ I know not who the singers are, but the voices are breathy and breathtaking simultaneously. The words are strung beautifully in musical notes......
